A previously-unreleased cut off the expansive new ‘1999’ box set.
A previously unreleased track off the forthcoming Super Deluxe Edition of Prince‘s legendary album 1999 is now available for streaming courtesy of the late musician’s estate. Originally recorded during the “summer of 1982 at Prince’s home studio on Kiowa Trail” in Chanhassen, Minnesota, the newly-debuted “Don’t Let Him Fool Ya” is being released as a single in support of Prince’s upcoming 1999 box set; as an official synopsis reveals, every single section of “Don’t Let Him Fool Ya” was “recorded by Prince himself, who filled the tape with bass, live drums, two guitars, keyboards and multiple layers of his voice.” Notably, the official studio version of Prince’s “Don’t Let Him Fool Ya” will be included on tracklist of the fourth CD in the aforementioned reissue’s lineup, which will see release later this month.
“I like to go with my intuition. Something hits me and I need to get the track down before I can move on,” reads a Prince quote featured in the new press release on “Don’t Let Him Fool Ya.” “It’s like there’s another person inside me, talking to me.”
Altogether, the Super Deluxe Edition of 1999 boasts 23 “never-before-released” studio cuts from Prince’s storied vault, as well as multiple recordings of live performances from the 1999 tour. This forthcoming release also marks the very first time that 1999 has received a remastering.
Prince’s estate and Warner Bros Records will come together to release expansive 1999 Super Deluxe Edition box set on November 29, 2019, and the entire collection is currently available for pre-order via multiple platforms. Other exclusive Prince items are also available for purchase through his official website.
