SNL's Michael Che stands by calling Boston the 'most racist city' he has ever visited

SNL's Michael Che ruffled feathers when he referred to Boston 'most racist city' he has ever visited back in February.

While appearing at Boston University on Thursday, the 33-year-old star explained his feelings for the city haven't changed. The comedian made no apologies, instead telling the audience how he implored one online critic to 'talk to your closest black friend and ask them to explain' what was meant by the comment, according to The Boston Globe

Michael said he was inundated with angry messages after making the controversial comment on an SNL episode which aired the night before the Super Bowl. (The pre-Super Bowl episode is typically one of the season's most viewed.)

Although he sloughed off most of the hate, Che told the crowd how he responded to a particularly salty message with a request rather than an answer.

The comic told an especially angry armchair critic if they were really that upset by what he said they should 'talk to [their] closest black friend and ask them to explain it,' instead of a stranger.

Apparently the woman was said to be struck by his answer, simply responding 'Touche.'

According to Reddit user hkepchar, who was in the BU audience Thursday, Che says he was burnt by the city of Boston when the SNL funnyman was allegedly denied entry into a local bar because he was wearing 'new Jordans'.

Bouncers told the New Yorker that sneakers were against the dress code, even though other people inside were also wearing sneakers. Clearly, the experience left Che with a bad impression of Beantown.

The Manhattan born star - who's fond of taking shots at President Trump - also explained that he never means to stir up controversy with his jokes and that he's 'just trying to be more presidential.'

SNL returns April 8 with comic Louie CK as host and The Chainsmokers as musical guests.

The NBC sketch show is also branching into somewhat new territory. SNL will broadcast live in all US time zones for the season's four remaining episodes.
