Marvel's 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' Has Officially Been Delayed

Originally slated for release on Disney+ this August, Marvel‘s upcoming TV series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has now been officially delayed. The push-back for its release date, as expected, is mostly due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has forced production to be suspended back in May. Unfortunately for Marvel fans, Disney hasn’t offered a new release date just yet, but the company hopes to provide updates as soon as possible.

For those unfamiliar, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is Marvel’s first proper TV series building on its Cinematic Universe. The plot picks up from the end of Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers retires as Captain America after living a civilian life in an alternate timeline and passes on the mantle (and shield) to the Falcon aka Anthony Mackie. Also starring in the series will be Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, as well as Daniel Brühl who’ll return as the main antagonist in Captain America: Civil War, Baron Zemo.

The latest news is not the first delay coming from Marvel and Disney due to COVID-19. While it’s still unclear whether WandaVision — another Disney+ series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe — will keep its newer December 2020 release date, both Black Widow and The Eternals‘ theatrical releases have been delayed from May 1 to November 6 and from November 6 to February 12, 2021, respectively.
